In 2008, frontman Michael Fitzpatrick (Fitz) found his muse in a $50 vintage church organ, a fateful purchase that inspired the groovy Motown throwback “Breakin’ the Chains of Love” and the forming of The Tantrums. That single kicks off its 2010 debut LP, Pickin’ Up the Pieces, a retro-loving set boosted by the soulful pipes of Fitz and co-singer Noelle Scaggs, potent blasts of brass, and a funk-leaning rhythm section.
