Formed during the London punk explosion of 1977, reggae-infused trio The Police offered a more polished, radio-friendly sound than the majority of their peers. Boasting strong musicianship, a knack for creating killer pop hooks, and one of the era's most charismatic frontmen in Sting, the band became a staple of the early MTV era, with both Ghost In the Machine and Synchronicity producing a number of hits. The band split up in 1983 at the height of their career, with Sting going on to launch an equally successful solo career, but later reformed in 2007 for a world tour.
