Leading The Agenda this week, South London’s Darkoo resurrects the summer of 2003 on “Favourite Girl.” Featuring St. Louis-born newcomer Dess Dior, the steamy drop borrows a popular sample loop instantly recognizable to dancehall lovers as the “Diwali Riddim.” In 2003, Sean Paul’s “Get Busy,” Lumidee’s “Never Leave You (Uh Ooh, Uh Oooh),” and Wayne Wonder’s “No Letting Go” (plus, in later years, Rihanna’s “Pon de Replay” and many others) all took turns on the swinging, hand-clapped groove, crafted by Jamaican producer Steven “Lenky” Marsden, that was soundtracking every block and house party. Now it’s back and under the spell of this double act for the summer’s unlikeliest tribute to the early 2000s. Elsewhere, new drops from Young T & Bugsey and Byron Messia & Lil Baby join The Agenda. Remember: The Agenda is always on the move, so if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
