Formed in Ellensburg, Washington, in 1985, Screaming Trees not only helped set up the grunge explosion of the early '90s, but ultimately became a part of it. Distinguished by the dusky voiced Mark Lanegan and Gary Lee Connor's fluid guitar work, the Trees spent years perfecting a fusion of punk and psychedelia with releases on legendary label SST. When Seattle's rock scene erupted, they earned mainstream attention with their sixth album Sweet Oblivion, featuring the hit “Nearly Lost You.” The band split in the late '90s, with Lanegan since finding accolades with his varied solo efforts.
