How do I find out which version of Shazam I have?

To find out which version of Shazam you have installed, start the application and go to the 'Options' menu on your device. Product version information is provided under the 'About' link.

How can I get the new version of Shazam for my phone?

If you have already downloaded the free promotional application (Version 2.1, available on the OVI store from Aug 09), you will automatically be prompted to download the new version when the promotional period expires on the 30th November 2009. You will get a 30 day free trial*, after which you can continue using Shazam for free* with limited features and tagging or pay once for unlimited usage.

You can download Shazam via Nokia's OVI store, using the OVI Store website or via the OVI application on your Nokia phone.

Will I lose my Tags if I update?

Your Tag List will be retained if you upgrade from V2.1 to V2.2 but please ensure that you don't delete the current version of Shazam before updating. Upgrading from older versions of Shazam may result in your Tag history being lost. However, your Tags are also held on our servers and we hope to offer a synchronisation feature in the near future.

How do I see the photos I've taken and attached in Shazam?

The photos attached to each Tag will display in rotation as you view the Tag. They are also saved in your camera so you can use them elsewhere. You attach photos to your Tag by using the 'Take Photo' and 'Attach Photo' buttons in Shazam.

The video on YouTube is not by the artist I tagged. Why?

We carry out a lookup on YouTube toget the best match. However, we depend on the content in YouTube to be properly Tagged for us to check this.

I've heard there are lyrics in the app but I can't see them. Why?

Lyrics are licensed to us and our suppliers on a territory-by-territory basis, So it is most likely that we do not yet have an agreement to display lyrics in your territory.

Will Shazam 2.2 work in other languages?

At launch Shazam 2.2 will support the following languages: French, Canadian-French, German, Spanish, Latin American, Spanish Italian, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Portuguese, Brazilian-Portuguese, Turkish, Russian, Dutch, Bulgarian, Mexican Spanish, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Polish, Romanian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Arabic and Hebrew. We are also finalising support for Japanese which will be available soon.

I'm not an English language speaker and my version of Shazam isn't in English. Why do I still see content in English in biographies and reviews?

Wherever possible we supply relevant content such as reviews and biographies. Where we do not have a localised version, we have chosen to give you the English content rather than nothing at all.

How do I delete and re-install the application?

You can delete Shazam from the device. Nokia devices may differ slightly but Shazam will most likely be listed under Menu > Applications. Within the Applications folder locate and highlight the Shazam icon and then select Options > Remove to delete the app.

If you intend to upgrade to a newer version of Shazam, be careful not to delete your existing application before upgrading as your Tags will also be deleted.

To upgrade to a newer version simply start your existing application and visit the following menu option: Options > Settings > Check for Upgrade.

Can I register on Shazam.com?

You cannot currently register your application on shazam.com. However, in some territories you can register on your device. If Registration is available in your territory, a prompt will appear automatically when you start the application. Registering with Shazam enables you to take advantage of the Shazam world of benefits including access to your Tag List on the web, special offers, our newsletter, feature updates and more.

Registration will be available in additional territories very soon and automatic prompts will appear within the application.

How big is the application?

The application file size is approximately 2MB when installed and slightly less to download.

How much data will I use?

To Tag a track Shazam will record and send from your device a data packet of about 4KB. The audio recording is not stored permanently on the handset. The tag information and artwork we then send to your handset normally uses around 55KB of data. The total amount of data you will download will be dependent on the number of times you view the page and what's displayed on the page. You'll use anything between 1KB and 30KB when you download an advert.

I have paid for Shazam on my device, do I have to pay again if I change my device?

Under the terms of our end user licence you do have to buy Shazam on each different device you want to use it on.

Are credit card payment instructions available in any language other than English?

Yes. Shazam's payment partner currently translates their service into English, German, French and Spanish. Danish, Finish, Norwegian and Swedish versions are currently in development. The language displayed is determined by your device settings. If you device is set to a language other than those supported, the payment screen will automatically default to English.

I had a free unlimited application but now my tags are limited to 5 per month. Why?

Shazam often make free and unlimited trials available to new users to allow you toexplore all the great features of the application. When your trial is over, you can keep using Shazam for free with limited features or upgrade to Shazam Encore for Tag Chart, unlimited tagging, Search Music, Recommendations, Track Info and other features. We're constantly looking for new ways to improve your music discovery experience.

Are music downloads free from Shazam?

Full track music downloads are not free, but before you purchase, 30 second previews are available for some tracks.

The Hebrew version of Shazam does not display properly on my device. How can I fix it?

Our apologies. This was caused by a software bug which will be fixed in our next release (2.5 release available in summer 2010). Meanwhile, we've provided a short term work-around which will ensure that Shazam is displayed in English. Simply re-download the application.

What is the cost of Shazam on OVI?

When you download Shazam 2.2 you will be given a 30 day free* trial with unlimited access to full features and functionality. When your 30 day trial ends, you can continue using Shazam for free* with limited features and tagging or pay once for unlimited usage. Because currency exchange rates fluctuate it is difficult for Shazam to publish a static price. However, when you select 'Upgrade Now', pricing information will be presented and you will be given an opportunity to confirm your purchase before proceeding. *Standard operator data charges apply.

Why is Shazam free on some networks and not on others?

Shazam has different commercial agreements with different networks and device manufacturers. We understand that it can be confusing for users and we're working hard to align pricing wherever possible.

Can I run Shazam from mass memory?

Unfortunately there is no yes or no answer to this question. Device capabilities differ and there is a wide range of mass memory accessories available on the market. Shazam may work with some combinations but is tested on device memory only.

Troubleshooting

Cannot delete Shazam

This relates to a problem with Themes on the device. If you have set your device to use the Shazam theme, reset it to use a different one. Then download the new application. The new version will replace the older app and you will be able to delete it if you wish.

Can't Tweet Tag

To successfully post to Twitter you need to enter your username and password. If you have not entered then yet, or your settings aren't correct, then you will be prompted to enter them when you press 'Tweet this Tag'. You can also re-enter or clear your settings at any time by clicking on the blue disclose arrow on 'Tweet this Tag'.

If there's an error contacting Twitter then we'll report that to you when we advise you that we couldn't tweet. In this case you will need to be patient whilst Twitter resolves their problems!

Can't post Tag to Facebook

To successfully post to Facebook you need to enter your username and password. If your have not entered them yet, or your settings aren't correct, then you will be prompted to enter them when you press 'Post to Facebook'.

It is most likely that you are using WIFI and your internet access is being blocked by a firewall's security settings. Try using your network data connection instead.

Foreign characters and accents aren't displaying properly when language settings are changed.

This issue was resolved in Version 2.2.1. If you have an earlier product, please download the latest version available on the OVI Store (also see FAQ above relating to non-display of Hebrew).
