Few female jazz singers were on Ethel Waters' level during this period -- just Bessie Smith and Annette Hanshaw, and all three were quite different from each other. Waters has rarely sounded better than on the four numbers in which she is backed rather forcefully by pianist James P. Johnson (particularly "Guess Who's in Town" and "Do What You Did Last Night"), but she is also in fine form on the other small-group sides. "I'm Coming Virginia," "Home," "Take Your Black Bottom Outside," "Someday Sweetheart," and "Am I Blue" (which she introduced) are among the many gems on this highly recommended entry in Classics' chronological series. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide

Addicted Saving Abel |
| Hard to believe Saving Abel are only on their debut album release. Having been together since 2004 the Mississippi five piece have become big news on the American rock scene. Following in the sound and stylistic pathways of stalwarts such as 3 Doors Down and Shinedown, Saving Abel are perhaps not reinventing the wheel in terms of genre but first single ‘Addicted’ sees them happily joining the best in the business. ‘Addicted’ mixes epic rock with that familiar southern American snarling vocal – but the key to the songs success is the massive chorus, its hooks a plenty with a hint of sordid antics that brings the classic rock fans out in force to support this track. ©2008 Shazam Entertainment Limited.
