The late New Orleans legend Ernie K. Doe has been given a posthumous chance for mainstream discovery as his cult track "Here come the girls" funks the new Boots advert up. Born in the Thirties within New Orleans' rich musical melting pot, Ernie grew up with a diet of gospel, blues and R&B. After joining a series of male vocal groups, the legendary producer and songwriter Allen Toussaint gave him a hand when launched as a solo artist; their collaboration during the late 50's and early 60's spawned the biggest hits of his career. The pair teamed up again for Doe's self-titled 1971 record, using The Meters as backing band. The album was commercially ignored, but a few years ago this track was rescued as part of Soul Jazz's excellent “New Orleans Funk” compilation and now its irresistible vibe is bound to help selling tons of female cosmetics.
