Music For A Nurse Oceansize |
| Clocking in at a majestic 8 minutes 17 seconds 'Music For A Nurse' was never going to be a candidate for daytime radio playlists, but that doesn’t make it any less worthy of your attention. Labelled as 'post-rock' by many, Oceansize (who’s moniker comes from a track from Jane's Addiction's 'Nothings Shocking') occupy the same musical territory as Mogwai, Tool and Jakob - bands who are happy to take their time building up sonic landscapes and avoid standard verse/chorus/bridge songwriting formulas. 'Music For A Nurse' was from the Manchester groups second album, 2005's 'Everyone Into Position' and featured on an Orange ad campaign and in the BBC drama Waterloo Rd. It's a dreamy number with washes of guitars rising and falling over a shuffling beat before the low key vocals are introduced at the two and a half minute mark. While it couldn't be described as pop by any stretch of the imagination, there's plenty of melody going on and at times recalls a down tempo version of indie rockers Doves. ~Martin Gadgil.
