Outshining the holy trinity of troubled pop celebrities (Winehouse, Doherty and Lohan) after all the turmoil, personal scandals and the out of shape return at the MTV awards, we are relieved to see that not everything has gone wrong in our favourite all-American girl's world. "Blackout", probably her best album to date, is a sleek, electro-tinged production, devoid of soppy AOR ballads and aimed at the dancefloor; with some self-referential moments that will please her fans and tabloid readers alike. It grants the listener all the fun Britney doesn’t seem to be having anymore. First single "Gimme More" nicely delivers all of this; a catchy grower that has ended up being Britney Spears’ highest US charting hit in years due to that insatiable public appetite for falling idols, likely to translate into healthy sales figures, sadly, for all the wrong reasons.  shazam
