Shazam's Review
Overhyped and inescapable, Lil Wayne has quickly become the latest hip-hop hero in the States, where "The carter III" is expected to break the biggest first week sales figures of the year, after months of anticipation and delays, doubling the numbers of the next best-seller (Mariah Carey) and even rivalling Coldplay's all-conquering launching campaign. This success automatically grants him a place within record industry's royalty. "Lollipop" was the first indication of the magnitude of Wayne's impact, when it reached the top of the Billboard's singles chart where it has stayed since, briefly interrupted by Leona Lewis. But the rest of the world has yet to warm up to the rapper's musical charms. And “Lollipop”, a rather unoriginal crunky production, filled with synths and rhymes based on a childish sexual metaphor, may not be the best track for the task. Much better, and fiercer, is the b-side, "A Millie", just been launched as the follow-up single stateside, with many different versions circulating online, including high profile collaborations by Jay-Z; Lil Mama; etc. rhyming over the title repeated as a loop.
