About Sergio Cammariere

Sergio Cammariere was born in Crotone, Italy in the 1960s. His unique compositional style and deft piano playing were seldom heard before his debut in his mid-thirties. He won the Premio Tenco Award for best performer of the year in 1997. Named as the revelation of the year, enthusiastic audiences would have to wait five years for his debut record, titled Dalla Pace del Mare Lontano, released on the Via Veneto jazz Label. The record was the result of a collaboration with songwriter Roberto Kunstler, renowned trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso and a number of notable Italian jazz musicians. Following this release came a full year of touring along with a series of awards, including Best First Album and Best Up-and-Coming Artists from the nations most important festivals and publications. A 2003 victory at Sanremo for the Critics Award and Best Musical Composition rocketed Cammariere from grassroots success to national phenomenon. In 2003 the artist's first concert DVD was released by the powerful EMI label, titled In Concerto -- from the Strahler Theatre in Milan. Cammariere's sophomore effort Sul Sentiero was released nearly a year later, in November 2004. The album's rich mixture of string arrangement and fiery jazz influence furthered Cammariere's reputation as Italy's foremost pop-jazz innovator. Two years later, Cammariere released his first self-produced record Il Pane, Il Vino e la Visione. For the first time, the artist incorporated a number of jazz A-listers, including Gilberto Gil, Ivan Lins and Bebo Ferra. ~ Evan C. Gutierrez, All Music Guide

MGMT
With 2005's "Time To Pretend" MGMT created a musical moment that would resonate for the next three years, putting it amongst the creme de la creme of new millennium indie anthems. With latest single, "Kids", MGMT fail to scale the heights they did with their first single, but still deliver a track that has met with strong approval from such critical sources as Pitchfork media, Zane Lowe and, surprisingly, dance music bible Mixmag who cited it as one of their "tunes of the year". Sporting an overridingly childlike melody that shimmers due to the interesting use of a distorted stylophone, the track washes over the listener thanks to the great use of a Gary Numan-esque synth line. This is all brought to the fore on the new remix by Belgian dance maestros Soulwax, who turn the muted indie cool of the original into an irrepressible club monster. If any evidence is needed, here is a clip of Erol Alkan playing the track at the recent Pukkelpop festival. Quite simply, amazing!
