About Vikter Duplaix
A songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and DJ, Vikter Duplaix was born in Philadelphia and spent his youth bouncing between that city and Augusta, GA. As a child, he developed his vocal skills in choirs, but he took a major step when he began programming drum tracks while working at a Philadelphia studio. Throughout the latter half of the '90s and on to the 2000s, Duplaix worked on records by Erykah Badu, Musiq, Eric Benet, and Jaguar Wright, often with fellow studio rat James Poyser. Associations with DJ Jazzy Jeff and Kenny Gamble proved to be instrumental to his growth and stature. With Duplaix's feet firmly entrenched in contemporary R&B, a relationship with King Britt led to immersion in dance music. He contributed vocals to Britt's Scuba project ("Swell"), and before long, Duplaix was producing his own material; underground singles like "Messages," "Manhood," and "Sensuality" went over well with house DJs, including Masters at Work, who gave "Sensuality" a big push. Remixes and collaborations with the likes of Jazzanova and an installment in !K7's DJ Kicks series all led up to International Affairs, Duplaix's full-length debut as a solo artist. The album was released in Europe in late 2002; it came out in the States early the following year. Bold and Beautiful followed for BBE in 2006. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

Swagga Like Us T.I. & Jay-Z Feat. KanYe West & Lil' Wayne |
| If the 80s saw New York rappers rule the roost in the USA and the 90s saw the rise of East Coast rappers such as Dr Dre. and Snoop Dogg, its safe to say that the 00s have seen the South come to be the major force in commercial Hip Hop. Enter Atlanta born rapper T.I. whose latest album, Paper Trail, looks set to storm into the number one slot in the US album charts and help solidify a real shift in power that has been bubbling in the last 10 years with rappers such as Ludacris, Lil Jon, Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy. On Swagger Like Us T.I. uses a sample from British artist M.I.A., one of the few artists who is as hot as T.I. himself right now in the States, and then assembles a dream team of rappers including Jay-Z. Lil Wayne and KanYe West to create a track that is predictably going down a storm for hip hop fans. Also predictably, Swagger Like Us treads the familiar lyrical territory of women, cash, clothes, guns and rhyming ability. But hey, when the beats are this banging and the rappers are this profile who cares? To paraphrase Tim Westwood, THIS IS BIG IN THE GAME! | |
