Music recognition
Back in August 2002, Shazam Entertainment Ltd launched a unique technology, enabling users to identify music anywhere - using just their mobile phone.
In the UK, Shazam operates under it's own brand, and allows customers to identify recorded music tracks by dialling 2580 on their mobile phone or downloading and deploying Shazam iD (a Java 'Smart' client application). Users hold their phone to the music for 10 to 15 seconds while Shazam identifies the track using a process based on unique 'fingerprints' and immediately sends the user an SMS if using DIAL 2580 (the IVR service), or as a result page within the Shazam iD application itself, displaying the name of the artist and song title.
Having received the music recognition result, users can then choose to buy associated products (ringtones, full track music, wallpapers etc), find out more about the track or artist on the WAP portal, or simply store the text message for future reference.
To use Shazam's music recognition service, customers do not need any additional hardware or software for their mobile phone, and no user registration is required. Shazam works in the UK across all operators (Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, O2, Virgin and 3), and on all handsets.
The Shazam iD chart
The Shazam iD Chart features the tracks that Shazam users have "iD'd" using our music recognition technology. In the UK, the iD Chart is produced weekly by aggregating the results of all users dialling 2580. International iD Charts are an aggregation of all users across the services live in each geography. Users can access the UK and international iD Charts on the Web or WAP portals at www.shazam.com.
Over time, the iD Chart has become an excellent indicator of what people are currently listening to (pre-release as well as post-release), and is used extensively by the music industry as an accurate prediction of future hits.

User iD Lists
iD Lists are personal to the user in the sense that they are a record of all the music that they have 'iD'd' using Shazam's music recognition technology.
iD Lists are available on the web or WAP portals at www.shazam.com to all users who have logged-in. Users can publish their iD Lists to the Shazam community and link their iD list with their own social networking page on Facebook, enabling them to view and comment on fellow member's iD Lists. They can also purchase products or read more information about the tracks they have iD'd on the Shazam website.
Embedded applications
Shazam has developed a new application Shazam iD that enables consumers to access the company's popular song identification solution directly from their mobile phone.
Music search
Music Search is an extension of Shazam's original Music Recognition offering. By allowing our users to query our ever-growing music database of over 4 million tracks, Shazam are able to offer a best in breed on-line music search tool. We have developed an advanced search engine which queries artist, album and track information, rendering information and products against each level of search. Music fans across the world can access the vast database of content on www.shazam.com, and we are able to offer territory specific music content and products.
