Bob Dylan

The very center of Bob Dylan's immense legacy falls with his groundbreaking work in the mid- to late '60s where his folk, blues, and country roots collided with his beat poet sensibility to create a whole new template for songwriting, and whether anyone since has improved on that template or not, Dylan's influence on all that came after him is pervasive. What gets lost in the legend is that Dylan didn't cease turning out amazing songs in the following decades, although they tend to be overshadowed by his stunning '60s output. This set highlights his '70s work, and features solid tracks like "Forever Young," "Tangled Up in Blue," "Watching the River Flow," and cinematic pieces like "One More Cup of Coffee," and while Dylan's '70s material might not have quite the explosive flash and glow of the songs he produced the previous decade, any songwriter would walk through fire to have these songs in his or her back pocket. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
