Katy 'Mrs Russell Brand' Perry released 'E.T.' as the fourth single from her monster selling 'Teenage Dream' album and in doing so showed there was more to her than self-empowerment anthems ('Firework') and bubble-gum pop ('California Gurls'). The somewhat left-field lyrics concentrate on the positive benefits of extra-planetary sex and who better to help out with such a topic than Kanye West, who is drafted in for a couple of suitably sleazy verses on the single release version. Perry once again links up with super-producers Max Martin and Dr. Luke (Britney, Jessie J, Ke$ha etc) who whip up a stomping rhythm track reminiscent of Queen's 'We Will Rock You' and layer a mixture of chanting, rapping (West) and swooping vocals over the top. It's an altogether darker and tougher track than any of Perry's past singles but was still well received by her fans who made sure it became her seventh US Hot 100 top ten hit.
