Dance With My Father Luther Vandross |

Sentimentality soars to new heights on this, Luther Vandross's final top 40 hit. Co-written with Richard ('Right Here Waiting') Marx, it won a Grammy for Song Of The Year and provided a suitably successful end cap to a glittering career. From his early days as founder of the Roberta Flack fan club, through to his time singing backing vocals for the likes of Chic, David Bowie and Diana Ross, and his own solo career Vandross proved himself to be a talented individual. He had sold over 25 million albums and won eight Grammy Awards before his untimely death at the age of 53. The album 'Dance With My Father', recorded just before his death, was his most successful release. The single of the same name is a slow ballad with a sparse backing track comprising piano, drums, bass and some fairly quiet strings. The effect is to highlight Vandross' super smooth vocals, which do not disappoint. In terms of lyrics some will find the track heartstoppingly emotional, others schmaltzy, but there's no denying the quality of the delivery. ~Martin Gadgil.
