Big Boi Feat. A$AP Rocky and Phantogram – Lines
You may know Big Boi as one half of hip-hop pop behemoth, Outkast. His new single titled ‘Lines’, from his forthcoming album ‘Dangerous Lies and Vicious Rumors’ continues to showcase his considerable talent as a solo artist
The album title has been attributed by some to the current rumours circulating about a rift in the Outkast camp, but Atlanta-based Big Boi has been quick to dismiss these – indeed on ‘Lines’ the mood is positive with A$AP Rocky rapping “life is so terrific, tell them pinch me if I’m dreaming…”.
Featuring the sort of typically lush production quirks we’ve come to expect from Big Boi, the otherworldly chorus vocals delivered by indie-pop duo Phantogram’s Sarah Barthel perfectly compliment A$AP’s flow. It makes for a sound which at once feels organic and natural yet makes the listener sit up and take notice. Talking about this process Big Boi said “I still bounce all over the place, but I just don’t work on the same songs. If I get tired of a sound or topic or style, I switch to another. It’s like building a house. My foundation is my beat selection process, just corralling all the beats together. Some might get bumped later on, but that foundation gives me direction”.
This follow up to his 2010 album ‘Sir Lucious Left Foot’ was originally due to be released on Def Jam on November 13, but has been pushed back until December. However, if this track is anything to go by (and it is) then it’ll be well worth the wait.
