Shazam Friends
How do I setup Shazam Friends?
Setting up Shazam Friends is simple; all you need is a Facebook account and you're ready to go.
Simply tap on the “Friends” Tab within Shazam and select the “Facebook Connect” button to get started. After successfully logging in to Facebook and granting the necessary permission, you’ll be setup on Shazam Friends.
Shazam will start showing you a feed of Tags discovered by your friends if they've also setup Shazam Friends.
There’s small print on the Shazam Friends Tab which talks about receiving emails – what is this?
When you setup Shazam Friends, we will send you an email welcoming you to Shazam and in the future we will use this email address to keep you up-to-date with the latest news on Shazam and it’s feature updates.
When I connect to Facebook, Shazam is asking for "Access my data any time", why?
This permission allows Shazam to provide you with a real-time Tag feed of your Friends music discoveries as well as share your Tags with your Friends.
I don't have a Facebook account - can I still use Shazam Friends?
No, Shazam Friends only works if you have an active Facebook account. We may introduce features in the future that will allow you to setup and use Shazam Friends without using Facebook.

What can I do with a Tag from my Friend?
You can do all the things you can normally do with a song you’ve discovered via Shazam (Buy on Amazon, watch the music video, learn more about the artist, view lyrics where available, and add it to your own Tag List).
Note: If you are an Encore user, you can listen to the track via Spotify in available countries.
Can I stop sharing tags with my Facecbook friends, but still see what they are tagging?
Yes, you can do this by tapping on the Settings Tab, selecting the "Shazam Friends" list item. This will take you to the settings screen for Shazam Friends where you can turn off the "Share Tags with your Friends" check box. This will stop your friends seeing all your tags including ones you've tagged in the past, but still allow you to see Tags from your friends if they are sharing their Tags.
How can I stop using Shazam Friends altogether, but still use Shazam?
You can disconnect from Shazam Friends at anytime by going into Setting, tapping on the "Shazam Friends" list item and selecting "Disconnect". This will log you out of Shazam Friends, but still allow you to use Shazam in the normal way.
The previous version of Shazam used to let me Share tags on Facebook and Twitter - I cannot find these features with the new layout, have they been removed?
No, they've been grouped under one list item called "Share" within the Tag Results Page. If you select the Share list item, you can share your discoveries the normal way.
If I setup Shazam Friends, will all my tags be automatically shared on Facebook?
No, they will not automatically appear on Facebook, they will show up on your Friends Feed within the Shazam App only, and on your friends feed if they have Shazam and have setup Shazam Friends.
How do I find out which version of Shazam I have?
On the home screen, touch the MENU button and select “Settings”. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and touch the “About Shazam” option to find out which version you have.
How do I get Shazam on Android?
If you’ve never installed Shazam before, it’s very easy. Open Android Market on your device then search for Shazam. From there you can simply click “Install”. If you already have an earlier version of Shazam from Android Market installed on your device, open Android Market on your device then search for Shazam. From there you can simply click “Update”.
Which devices does it work on?
Shazam works on Android devices from version 1.6 of the Android OS up to and including the latest Android 2.3 OS.
Shazam Encore works on Android devices from versions 1.6 of the Android OS up to and including the latest 2.3 OS.
Shazam requires a microphone to hear and Tag playing music.
How can I tell which version of Android OS I have?
On your device open “Settings” then “About phone”. Toward the bottom of the page (you may have to scroll), it will list “Firmware Version” or “Android Version”.
Will I lose my Tags if I update?
Your Tag List will be retained when you update. However, please ensure that you don't delete the current version of Shazam before updating.
You’ll only lose your Tag List if you delete the free version of Shazam from your device. We’re constantly improving the Shazam service and aim to implement features to make it easy for users to import tags from Shazam to Shazam Encore.
Once you’ve upgraded to the premium version of our App, your free App will automatically include unlimited tagging and Recommendations.
Will Shazam for Android work in other languages?
Shazam 3.0 supports the following languages:
English, German, French, Spanish, Spanish (LATAM), Dutch, Italian, Czech, Polish, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Russian, Japanese and Korean.
I'm not an English language speaker and my version of Shazam isn't in English. Why do I still see content in English in biographies and reviews?
Wherever possible we supply relevant content such as reviews and biographies. Where we don't have a localised version, we have chosen to give you the English content rather than nothing at all.
How much does Shazam on Android cost?
There are two versions of the application on Android Market.
- Shazam – The free* version of the App with unlimited tagging until the 1/1/2012, after which the app will revert to the standard 5 Tags per month. This version of Shazam includes Sponsor messages and advertising.
- Shazam Encore – The premium version of the App with unlimited tagging and additional features priced at £2.99, €3.99, $4.99 USD. Shazam Encore does not include 3rd party advertising.
*Standard operator data charges apply.
I've upgraded from Shazam to Shazam Encore will I lose my Tags?
No. We've introduced a new feature in Shazam Encore that will import your Tags from Shazam on startup. The import should take about 5-10 seconds.
Once you've upgraded to Encore, your free App will automatically include unlimited tagging and Recommendations.
I’ve upgraded to Shazam Encore, I have 2 Shazam applications now, do I need both?
Shazam Encore is a separate application and you don’t need to keep Shazam if you have upgraded, but Shazam and Shazam Encore will share tag results between both apps if you would like to keep both.
The video on YouTube is not by the artist I Tagged. Why?
We carry out a lookup on YouTube and we get the best match. However, we rely on YouTube to maintain their content and ensure the appropriate videos appear with the right Tags.
Why can’t I link my Facebook or Twitter Accounts?
You can link your Facebook or Twitter accounts to Shazam when you first choose to share your Tag details with your friends and followers. At this point, you will be presented with a Facebook Connect or Twitter OAuth where you can enter your login details. Once you’ve linked your social network accounts, you will not need to do it again.
You can disconnect your social networks from Shazam by going into Settings> Scroll down to Social and Logout of your Facebook or Twitter accounts.
I'm trying to share a Tag on Facebook, but the Facebook isn't working on my device.
The Facebook Connect SDK only works on Android OS 1.6 or higher. It is likely that you are Android 1.5 on your device. You might be able to upgrade to a newer version of Android through the manufacturer website.
How do I delete and re-install the application?
To delete Shazam from your device, go to Setting > Application Settings > Manage Applications. Click on Shazam and on the Application Info Screen click 'Uninstall'.
To re-install the application at a later date, simply visit Android Market, search for Shazam, and select “Install” – in the same way as before.
I don't have an Android device, can I still get Shazam?

How big is the App?
The App file size is approximately 3MB when installed, and a little less to download.
How much data will I use?
To Tag a track Shazam will record and send data from your device and receive tag information and artwork which will normally total around 55KB of data. The audio recording is not stored permanently on the handset. The total amount of data you will download will be dependent on the number of times you view the page and what's displayed on the page.
If I am still encountering problems, where can I contact support?
You can contact Shazam's Android Support here.
You can also follow Shazam on Twitter for music news and support issues.
What is offline tagging and how can I use it?
Offline tagging is a feature on Shazam and Shazam Encore that allows you Tag even when you are out of data coverage. Shazam will store the Tag for you locally which you can then submit for identification when you're back in data coverage.
How do I place a Shazam Widget on the home screen?
Install Shazam and then press down on the home screen. This will bring up a screen called "Add to Home Screen". Select Widgets as the option and then select Shazam from the list of available Widgets.
How do I Tag a song from the Widget?
Once you've placed with Widget on the Home screen, selecting the Shazam logo on the left will launch Shazam in listening mode. If you have Shazam Free and Shazam Encore installed on your device, the Shazam Widget will always treat Shazam Encore as your primary application.
I've seen a Track I like on the Widget Tag Stream, how can I add it to my Tags?
Tap on the song text and this will show you a shortcut menu. From here you can tap the “plus” icon to add the track to your Tag list. Once you've successfully added a track from the Tag Stream, the icon will change to a tick icon. If you want to return to the Tag Stream, just tap on the track text.
How do I remove the Shazam Widget from my home screen?
You can remove the Shazam Widget at anytime by pressing down on the Widget and then dragging it to the "Trash" icon at the bottom of the home screen. This will remove the Widget from your home screen.

The Shazam Widget will use approximately 5KB of data per hour whilst active and 3.2MB of data per month.
How can I stop Shazam from rotating to landscape mode every time my device changes orientation?
Just switch off auto rotation in the device settings. To do this, go to Settings > Display and uncheck check the "Auto-Rotation” option.
I used to have unlimited tagging, but I've switched devices and lost my unlimited tagging. Can I get it back?
Yes. Users who've downloaded and setup Shazam prior to 14th July 2010 can now keep their unlimited tagging status when switching to a new Android device. Your application purchases are tied to your Google Account and can be installed an unlimited amount of times on any Android device with no charge by simply visiting My Downloads. Note: free applications are not saved to My Downloads after you remove them.
If you change devices, you can install previous purchases by making sure you sign into your device with the same Google Account you used on your previous phone.
Trouble finding your IMEI?
- If you still have the original device, the IMEI number can be found under Android Settings> About Phone> Status > IMEI.
- The IMEI will be printed on a label on the device, usually under the battery.
- Your carrier may also give you this information from their records if you have sold your device or lost it.
- Launch Shazam on your new device and click on Settings>About Shazam
- Click the email address link (android.support@shazamteam.com). This will open up a pre-populated support email using your preferred email client.
- Change to Subject text to "Android: Transfer Unlimited Tagging"
- At the top of the mail, enter the IMEI number of your old device which was granted unlimited tagging.
- Select Send
If our records indicate you were granted unlimited tagging on your old IMEI, we will transfer the same status over to your new device. Please note: your old device will be reverted back to limited user status.
