Director - Business Development
Responsibilities & Deliverables
The following are the key responsibilities and deliverables expected of the successful candidate.
Work with current and potential partners in the mobile and internet industries to negotiate and execute strategic partnership agreements.
Be responsibility for overall relationship management and be the first point of contact for many of the most strategic partners of the Company. Maintain and foster strong relationships with personnel at all levels of partner organizations.
Develop, evaluate, and prioritize ideas on new ways to grow the business through partnerships that drive significant new user acquisition, usage, and revenue.
Maintain an intimate knowledge of trends in the mobile, Internet, and music industries. Serve as the Company’s “ear to the ground” relating to cutting-edge consumer hardware and services developing in Silicon Valley and beyond.
Work cross functionally with product, marketing, finance, and engineering to evaluate partners and partnering opportunities, and maximize the value that Shazam derives from those partnerships.
Present regularly to upper management on partnering opportunities and results.
Serve as the partner “champion” within the Company. Understand each partner’s business objectives, reach, affinities and direction to develop the most fruitful partnerships possible. Drive the Company to understand the value potential of its strategic partnership and execute on its partner obligations.
For all of the above, you’ll be working with a wide variety of different partners, from major app platforms, wireless carriers, OEM handset manufacturers, and potentially television networks/shows and brands, plus others.
Qualifications & Experience
This job requires the following qualifications and experience.
Minimum of 8-10 years experience in similar areas and roles, a majority of which should be in the consumer-facing internet and/or mobile industry.
Demonstrated experience sourcing, negotiating, and executing large, strategic, and complex partnership agreements.
Must be smart, a strategic thinker, full of good ideas, creative, persistent, agile and driven.
Must have experience and be a proven contributor in a small to medium size company with a fast-pace, less structured environment.
Must be outgoing, collaborative and communicative, comfortable and experienced in networking with others professionally.
Comfortable with being an individual contributor, yet able to effectively manage cross-functional teams to achieve deliverables. Like any successful contributor in a start-up, the ability to be a “great athlete” and take on different roles and projects as needed by the company over time.
BS/BA degree required, MBA a plus.
Deep understanding of prominent web, mobile and social platforms and services. The ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner, in both written documents and presentations and verbally, including strong experience presenting and collaborating with cross-functional teams, with executive management, and with partners and other external parties in a professional and polished manner
Ability to work independently and perform parallel tasks with collaborative and consultative skills working with others across the company.
Skill in focusing on desired results, determining what is important and urgent, clarifying next steps, and prioritizing work effectively to meet deadlines and achieve desired results.
