Shazam reveals the nation's wedding 'first dance' choices

London, 13 June 2008 - To celebrate this summer's biggest wedding between Wayne Rooney and Colleen McLoughlin, new research released today by Shazam, the world's leading mobile to web music service provider, reveals the nation's favourite wedding 'first dance' songs.

Topping the chart is the classic love song, Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton followed by Angels by Robbie Williams in second place and You're Beautiful by James Blunt coming a close third.

The survey was conducted in the UK amongst 16 - 64 year olds who were asked to pick 'what would be their favourite song to have as their first dance at their wedding', from the most popular romantic tracks, on Shazam's 5 million strong database, compiled by thousands of music fans across the UK using Shazam to 'ID' their favourite tunes with their mobile phone.

Perhaps surprisingly, Wonderful Tonight is more popular with men than women with 25% more men selecting it as their favourite song. In fact, the sappy You're Beautiful is the top wedding tune for the under-25s and is ranked at 115 in the Shazam All Time Top 200 Chart.

While the top three songs may seem conventional choices to celebrate your first dance as man and wife, the poll also revealed some more interesting faves for the first dance with The Beatles' classic In My Life in fifth place and Led Zeppelin's All of my Love appearing in seventh, perhaps boosted by their recent sold-out live concert.

The results of the poll have prompted speculation as to which song Wayne and Colleen will choose for their first dance as a married couple.

The survey was conducted in Great Britain via OnLineBus, an Internet omnibus survey. A sample size of 1009 GB adults aged 16-64 were interviewed by CAWI over the internet from 5th - 9th June 2008. The song list was drawn from the most popular romantic tracks on the 5 million strong Shazam database.
