Patrick Swayze, who ultimately lost his battle against pancreatic cancer, was clearly a man of many talents. Not contented with being a licensed pilot; once being voted the 'sexiest man alive', and acting in a number of Hollywood blockbusters; he was also a keen singer/songwriter and responsible for co-writing and singing 'She's Like The Wind'. Originally intended for the film 'Grandview, USA' , the track eventually ended up on the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, which helped propel it to number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1986. As a slice of strictly mushy, piano based soft rock it ticked all the right boxes and sounded exactly like the type of song that appeals to those who bought the soundtrack -David Hasselhoff liked it so much he did his own version-. The movie made a star of Swayze, then in his mid-thirties, who went on to take the lead role in the smash hit film 'Ghost' with Demi Moore, resulting in him becoming one of Hollywood's most bankable talents. However, the twin factors of celebrity and alcoholism meant that life wasn't always a walk in the park for Swayze. In his later career, he actively tried to avoid becoming typecast by appearing lower budget films and acting in different roles, such as the self-help guru in cult hit 'Donnie Darko', until finally retiring after being diagnosed with cancer. ~Martin Gadgil.
