For a country the size of the UK but with a fifteenth of the population, New Zealand has a very healthy music scene. However trying to break out of that scene onto the international market can be something of a trial due to the country's geographic isolation. With their track 'The Otherside' Breaks Co-op did just that, joining the a list that includes Kiri Te Kanawa, Shihad, Crowded House and Flight Of The Conchords, all acts that managed to gain a worldwide audience. Initially started as an electronic act by Hamish Clark and Zane Lowe (formerly of MTV and now on BBC Radio One) the band drifted towards a more gentle style incorporating acoustic instruments and adding a singer, Andy Lovegrove. Their second album 'The Sound Inside' was a smash hit and 'The Otherside' won Song Of The Year 2007 at the New Zealand Music Awards. It's a laid back acoustic number with a memorable hook in the chorus and an easy listening feel that sounds just like a lazy day at the beach.
