Over the past eight years, Stacy Ferguson - better known as Fergie- has gone from strength to strength. She joined hip-hop group Black eyed Peas in 2003 and experienced worldwide success with two best-selling albums. Then came her debut solo record, "The Duchess". Producing some of the biggest songs of the decade ('Big Girls Don't Cry', 'Fergalicious'), the album sold millions of copies, with five Top 5 hits being pumped out one after the other. 'Clumsy' was the last of these singles, and made use of a Little Richard sample. It is probably one of the poppiest songs recorded for her album, and tells the story of a girl who seems to fall for men at the drop of a hat. Much of Fergie's solo album was more electronic and melodic than her work with the Peas, and 'Clumsy' is a clear indication of this. Having since produced another huge album with the band, Fergie may well be remembered as one of this decade's most successful artists, accumulating ten US Top 10 hits, with more surely soon to follow. ~John Rowley.
