25 years after the unfortunate demise of ABBA, undoubtedly one of the world's greatest pop bands of all time, another European act has brought back the cheese factor. Alphabeat's second single '10,000 Nights' sounds like a mix of Queen's 'Somebody To Love' and the ABBA anthem 'Mama Mia', with curious results. It's certainly catchy enough and the sort of song you want to sing along to, but won't due to fear of your friends laughing. Upon release, the single managed to chart at #16 in the UK - quite unusual for a band of Danish origin. '10,000 Nights' packs an amazingly cheesy punch - loaded with cheesy lyrics ('Love is an ocean, a sweet emotion') and even cheesier male/female harmonies. By no means have Alphabeat changed the world of pop music with their output to date. However, they have managed to add some fire to that brand of undeniably infectious pop music, so carefully crafted that after a few listens it is impossible to resist. ~John Rowley.
