Shazam's Review

Throughout her successful recording career, megastar Rihanna has tackled a vast spectrum of musical genres: pop, hip-hop, rap, reggae, and even rock. Her debut hit 'Pon De Replay' is a reggae-tinged song that introduced us to one of the world's biggest stars today. Little did we know at the time that the Barbados-born songstress behind this catchy, summery hit would go on to conquer the world with hit after memorable hit. However, casting aside Rihanna's remarkable ride to the top of the charts, 'Pon De Replay' is quite a good song in its own right. Perhaps a tad repetitive, the song is hook-laden and has an enjoyable summer feel to it. You'll find yourself singing along after a few listens, with simple melodies incorporated throughout the song to draw the listener in. It may not be lyrically deep (the main 'theme' of the song is convincing a DJ to 'turn the music up'), but 'Pon De Replay' more than holds its own amongst the library of hits that is Rihanna's musical output to date.
