This was Perry's second attempt at a music career after her ill-fated Christian music album released in 2001 under her real name Katy Hudson. Perry says this pop song is about appreciating the beauty of women, and is not advocating promiscuity as some people have said it is. 'I Kissed a Girl' is an instantly catchy number which has caused some controversy with lyrics like 'I kissed a girl and I liked it, I hope my boyfriend don't mind it'.
