'Against All Odds' is an outstanding slice of raucous funk flecked Hip Hop; which may come as something of a surprise to those who have been following Chase & Status' career so far. First breaking through in 2005 with their Capleton sampling 'Duppy Man', a stomach shuddering Drum and Bass track that combined ragga vocals with head rattling drums, Chase & Status have risen to become some of the most in-demand Drum & Bass producers on the scene with regular appearances at Fabric and releases on the ever influential Ram Records. However, you'd do well to guess that from 'Against All Odds' as the 'Apache' sampling break beats, horn stabs and Motown-esque vocal snippets sound like they should have emanated from a New York bloc party rather than a London warehouse rave. 'Against All Odds' also features a top notch performance from Kano, a rapper that has often found himself in the shadow of fellow East London grime MC's Dizzee Rascal and Wiley. The frantic breaks are a perfect launch pad for Kano's rapping style which has always sounded best on more up-beat scenarios such as his early track 'Boys Love Girls' or any of his much sought after mix-tapes.
