Shazam's Review

A guitar riff that could've been inspired by any of Sonic Youth's post "Goo" albums kick-starts the first taste of Polly Harvey's return with regular collaborator John Parish for a second album together, more than a decade after they teamed up for the challenging and underrated "Dance Hall At Louse Point". A good choice for a single, "Black Hearted Lover" is probably the most accessible song they've ever made, revisiting that familiar alt-rock feeling that featured in the best rock albums of the nineties, without sacrificing PJ's typical reflections on the obscure angles of human relationships. The rest of "A Woman And a Man Walks By" moves within the more experimental ways of its predecessor, with both artists pushing each other's musical boundaries in multiple directions. ~Roberto González~ Copyright © Shazam Entertainment Limited 2009.
