Shazam's Review

The problem with 'Candy', the comeback single form the Scot's sophomore album 'Sunny Side Up', is it doesn't match anything from his brilliant debut and doesn't reflect the originality as expressed on that first record. It's slightly underwhelming on first hearing, but does grow on you with repeated listens. The melody is a stum-a-long, guitar based tune, reminescent of classic 60's American songs and other older crooners from yesteryear. This is probably due to the influence of the producer, Ethan Johns (previously worked with Ryan Adams, Kings Of Leon and Ray LaMontagne), giving him a slightly new direction. Unfortunately, he may still be too young at 22 to pull it off convincingly, but one suspects that there are stronger singles to come from the album. Add to that his hectic festival and touring schedule and a growing fan base (the album is already number one at time of writing), and it's not hard to guess we will definitely be hearing a great deal more from this talented singer-songwriter in years to come.
