Shazam's Review

When Calvin Harris burst on the scene with an incredibly catchy single and a clearly fictional press release that claimed he'd made his whole album on an Atari, you could easily be forgiven for thinking the lanky Scot would be another flash in the pan dance act. However, a few more stupidly catchy singles down the line, the development of an actual live act and an often humorous presence on the web seemed to give indications that Calvin might be something a little more than your run of the mill electro popper. This was later proven as Calvin helped reshape the once underground career trajectory of Dizzee Rascal and in the process created one of the most enduring records of 2009, 'Dance Wiv Me'. Unsurprisingly, 'I'm Not Alone' is yet another ridiculously catchy single from Mr Harris. What is surprising is the departure from his electro pop format in favour of an epic emotional opus. With a build up that wouldn't be out of place on Gatecrasher's dance floor circa 1997 and a melancholy guitar lead intro, the record should be horribly cheesy but somehow isn't. Instead it's a riveting pop tune that throws in an all important element of hands in the air fun – always useful with the festival season approaching.~Stephen Titmus~ Copyright © Shazam Entertainment Limited 2009.
