Shazam's Review

After months of gradual ascent and word-of-mouth promotion, Florence + The Machine's debut album 'Lungs' finally topped the UK album charts in early 2010, six months after its initial release. London-born Florence Welch crafted a somewhat ethereal sound on the album, that slips in somewhere between pop and alternative on the musical spectrum. Pounding beats and jangling melodies are evident on 'Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)', the album's third single and one of its definite highlights. Based around a pentatonic scale which creates an eastern feeling when played on a harp, the track is definitely more than a straightforward pop track, with its curious harmonies and sweeping, grand chorus. Florence received huge acclaim for 'Lungs', including a Brit Award from Best British Album in 2010, despite its quite dark subject matter. 'Rabbit Heart' holds its own as one of 2009's most popular songs, heralding the emergence of a truly unique musical commodity. ~ John Rowley ~ Copyright (c) Shazam Entertainment Limited 2010.
