'Down' was the track that first broke London rapper Jay Sean in the US. The collaboration with Lil' Wayne, surely the busiest man in hip hop music, was Jay's first release on the rapper's Cash Money Records. The orchestral intro gives way to an addictive beat and chorus that became the default sound booming from many teenagers' phones throughout the year. While Jay-Z maligned the death of auto-tune in early 2009, Jay Sean and Lil Wayne proved that there was plenty of hit making potential left in the production trick - what with Lil' Wayne's cameo drenched in the now familiar robotic style. The record reached the top of the US Billboard charts in October 2009 - remarkable making Jay Sean the first artist of Indian origin to score a number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 . ~Jon Davies. While Jay-Z may be singing about the death of the auto-tune, Jay Sean clearly isn’t listening. The popular effect features heavily in this track and Lil' Wayne's cameo is drenched in the now familiar robotic style. The track has already become a huge hit in America, featuring in the higher echelons of the Billboard Chart for several weeks.
