Lightning struck not twice, but three times for David Guetta in 2009. After working alongside ex Destiny's Child diva Kelly Rowland and notching up production credits on the Black Eyed Peas' global smash, 'I Gotta Feeling'; Guetta scored another global hit with 'Sexy Chick'. The vocal duties on 'Sexy Chick' are taken care by Senegalese / US rapper Akon, one of the few artists who can actually rival Guetta's propensity to deliver a hit. Although the lyrics are far from complex, the simple and memorable rhymes of 'Sexy Chick' helped it achieved huge club and radio play the world over. The video for the track was shot in Ibiza and includes scenes at David Guetta's own 'F*** Me I'm Famous' at Pacha - a venue that mirrors Guetta's own jet setting image what with its huge VIP area and reputation as the most glamorous club in the world. Even if neither of those are your bag, you have to admire the work ethic of the man and his choice of global music superstar pals. He again twiddles the knobs on this R&B, Dance & Rap infused electronic number, but has Akon supplying the vocals this time. The lyrics mean little, in fact are trite to say the least…something about how to be complimentary about a lady who may look like she’s a bit rough, but somehow sexy. If all this hasn’t confused the record buying public already, then the fact that there is an alternate version for the ever so sensitive audiences of certain countries, called ‘Sexy Chick’, undoubtedly will. However, the tune saves the track, although with repeated listens the hook and the chorus gets into your brain annoyingly easily. It’ll be big, especially in the US and maybe in Europe as well, but probably won’t take off like his former two tracks, especially as his studio album is available to buy now, reducing the sales potential of ‘Sexy Bitch’. Maybe the concept video or some of the mixes, particularly the Abel Ramos one, may rescue it, but the public may be feeling less is now more by the end of the year.~Stuart Ayling~ Copyright © Shazam Entertainment Limited 2009.
