Ke$ha was an artist who had largely existed in the background of the music industry, performing backing vocals for Britney Spears and writing songs for Miley Cyrus, until she was asked to perform chorus duties on Flo Rida's Dead Or Alive sampling single, 'Right Round'. After the huge success of the aforementioned single Ke$ha quickly became the featured artist du jour for not just Flo Rida, but a whole host of R&B artists including Pitbull and British heartthrob Taio Cruz. 'Tik Tok' was the first single where the singer took center stage; using a Lady Gaga / RedOne style backing to power her undeniably hook laden songwriting. It was a matter of time for the world to be bombarded with a wave of GaGa wannabes. The year's biggest success story is being followed with the industry's normal procedure: marketing more of the same. Ke$ha could be the West Coast answer to the quirky NY Lady as she takes the same route to fame, packed with impossibly catchy choruses and 80's indebted synth hooks.
Previous entries on this LA singer CV include song writing for the likes of The Veronicas and Miley Cyrus; although her big break happened earlier this year in the company of Flo Rida, featuring on his appropriation of Dead Or Alive's classic 'Right Round'. She also appears in recent albums by Pitbull and British heartthrob Taio Cruz. All that namedropping is paying off well, with even Diddy giving his blessings via cameo in the singer's debut solo track. To Ke$ha’s credit, 'Tik Tok' is a radio-friendly electropop monster, as instantly memorable as anything her rival has ever done.
