'Empire State of Mind' is taken from Jay-Z's eleventh studio album, 'The Blueprint 3': a record that helped Jay-Z equal Elvis' record as the artist with the second most US number 1 albums behind The Beatles. The third single after the controversial 'Death of Autotune' and the star-studded 'Run This Town', 'Empire State Of Mind' is an evocative tribute to Jay-Z's hometown New York: the places, icons, and moments that shaped his rise from the hood to the very embodiment of the American dream. As a composition 'Empire State Of Mind' reflects the Big Apple's musical diversity through the fusion of two of its most representative genres: the hip-hop culture Jay-Z belongs to and the Broadway musicals of his home town.
