Poison Girl

The Shadows

The Shadows -- not to be confused with the R&B vocal group of that name from the 1940s, the renowned British instrumental outfit of the 1950s, or Bobby Vee's backup band -- were a Southern garage band. They cut one single, "If You Love Me" b/w "The Big Mess," pressed by Woodrich Records of Nashville, TN, the two sides of which played off of similar material in two very different directions successfully. They were a five-piece instrumentally, with two guitars and organ (or piano) plus bass and drums, all with a great attack on their instruments, and their lead singer had a powerful and expressive voice. They must've had one great sound in concert, and more's the pity that their work wasn't more extensively preserved. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
