About Kevin Ortiz
Biografia wykonawcy
Kevin Ortiz is a Latin pop singer from Pasadena, California and the brother of singer/songwriter Gerardo Ortiz. Kevin is the youngest of five children. His parents are first-generation Americans; his grandparents are from Culiacán, Sinaloa, and his ties to regional Mexican musical traditions run deep and wide. Like many of his peers, Ortiz began his musical studies when he was young. At the age of five he began playing accordion, learning polkas, rancheras, and conjuntos. Singing was something he did only with his friends. That all changed when Gerardo entered the music industry and experienced success as both a songwriter and recording artist. Kevin had to try, too. His older brother wrote his first single, "Un Minuto," released in July of 2013, and it got significant airplay. Kevin and Gerardo were both winners at Univision's Youth Awards, and his older brother presented him with the Youth Revelation Award. The biggest difference between the two brothers is that Kevin's debut album, Con la Misma Sangre, was not a collection of gritty corridos, but mostly romantic ballads. It was issued in November of 2013 and peaked at number five on the Hot Latin Albums chart; it hit the top spot on the Regional Mexican Albums list as well.
Ortiz toured incessantly for a solid year, playing all over Mexico and in the United States. He reentered the studio in 2015 and emerged with Mi Vicio, Mi Adicción in February of the following year. It featured guest spots from Gerardo on "Volverá" and Beto Vega on "A Los 18" (both corridos), and the surprising cumbia "Que Sí, Que No," featuring Colombian reggaetoñero Maluma. The album entered the Mexican Regional Albums chart at number two and the Hot Latin Albums chart in the same spot a month later. The record had staying power and fought its way up to the second spot on the Mexican Regional Albums chart 15 months after its release. A third full-length, Aqui Sigo Todavia, arrived in 2018. ~ Thom Jurek
