Jordan Klassen’s sophomore album is overflowing with glorious heart-on-sleeve moments, taking difficult issues like tragedy and depression and channeling them into songs of hope. “Delilah,” about his mother’s struggle with cancer, is a sweet, delicate tearjerker, while the dramatic piano of “We Got Married” lays the groundwork for an especially poignant ballad. Though it sometimes deals with inconceivably heartbreaking struggles, Javelin never gives in to despair, which makes its moments of quiet clarity, like “Smoking Too Long,” that much more powerful.
