Smerz
Okey
Album · Electronic · 2017 · XL Recordings
Less is more as the Norwegian pair warp skeletal electro-pop into intoxicating forms. The influence of minimalist techno reverberates within songs that are stripped back to deep bass throbs and machine-tooled beats before being dressed with narcotic synth patterns, airy vocal harmonies, and, on the hypnotically confusing "Craig", tantalising snatches of conversation. Okey is always a warm listen though, and its seductive grace is exemplified by the slow-release melodies of "Because" and “Sure".
