Make Believe

Inspired by Rivers Cuomo’s Tibetan-Buddhist meditation practice, Make Believe embeds declarations of honesty, solace, and love within Weezer’s guitar-heavy pop riffs. “Peace” boasts the most vulnerable refrain of the band’s career (“I need to find some peace…”), while “Hold Me” is a graciously simple slow dance that speaks to every openhearted introvert. With its grungy take on Def Leppard’s stadium shout-alongs, “Beverly Hills” is heavy and gleeful, but “The Other Way” is a pop confection with the timeless feel of a Ronettes tune.
