These songs presaged the opulent aesthetic that would soon dominate hip-hop with the rise of The Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z. After studying “Got Me Waiting,” “Something Goin’ On,” and “Move On,” it’s impossible not to see Heavy D as Biggie’s predecessor and prototype.
