Britpop's siren of survival recorded this 1990 live album in a Brooklyn cathedral with all proper gravitas and an authoritative backing band. More a feast for fans than newcomers, Blazing Away leans heavily on material from Broken English, Faithfull's rough-and-ready 1979 comeback, and also yanks new pathos out of "Sister Morphine." The real highlight is the title track, a fresh studio cut that flirts with burnout to the twang of a steel guitar.
