Violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter’s 2005 recording of Mozart’s five violin concertos, miraculously all written in 1775, is remarkable in so many ways. Mutter wears each concerto’s considerable technical demands with a lightness and grace, amply displayed in the opening to Violin Concerto No. 3. Particularly in the slow movements, there’s a richness to her tone that allows it to soar effortlessly over the London Philharmonic. And where the music demands it, Mutter injects into her playing real wit and incisiveness. Spatial Audio now adds extra clarity and color to what was already an astonishing set of recordings.
