Lil' Keke
Testimony
Album · Hip-Hop/Rap · 2011
Although Houston rap's crossover heyday has come and gone, pioneering H-Town emcee and Swishahouse representative Lil' Keke stays busy and keeps putting out good music. After coming up with legendary mixtape maestro DJ Screw and the Screwed Up Click, Keke started dropping solo records in the late '90s and is probably best known for his 1998 anthem "Southside" (off Don't Mess with Texas). Not as nationally known as his peers Paul Wall or Slim Thug, he's still a huge star locally and has released dozens of projects over the last decade. Stylistically, he pretty much sounds the way he always has, with rambunctious beats supporting brash rhymes about looking fresh ("Fly"), staying paid ("Gwap"), repping his hood ("I Got Seven 13"), and being a gangsta ("Nutin' but a Gangsta"). If you're in the mood for rolling in the Caddie or H-Town street rap, Testimony is for you.
