The King and Mr. Biscuits
Album · Hip-Hop/Rap · 2010
Originally known as Dre Dog, San Francisco's Andre Nickatina has been dropping outrageously funky and ultra-charismatic hip-hop since the early '90s, developing a devoted cult following around the Bay while remaining shamefully unknown to the rest of the world. Regardless, he keeps putting out dope product; hardcore-yet-witty raps are his stock in trade. On The King and Mr. Biscuits, he connects with homie/protege Smoov-E (a.k.a. Eli), for a short but sweet ride through their crazy consciousness. It's clear that they don't take themselves too seriously, and while some of the tracks sound a little bit haphazard, there's something about them that just demands your attention. The lyrics vary little, focused almost entirely on partying and the beats are pretty much 100% simple keyboard jams, but they work perfectly here. Standout joints: "Can't Be Faded (Remix)," "Coke Bottle Figure," "Come for Me," and "For the Green (Remix)."
