This 2011 EP by producer Alex Melia (a.k.a. Reso) opens with cinematic samples that recall the dystopian future of Blade Runner; then electro flourishes and a heavily phased bass swing over stuttered beats. “Ishimura” follows, blending techno trappings with robotic oscillations that borrow from '90s industrial soundscapes. “Vanquish” boasts a sputtering bass that vibrates hard like an old motorcycle in top gear. But it’s Reso’s attention to editing detail in the unpredictably angular drum patterns that gives this track his signature sound. The Evol Intent remix of “Ishimura” pitches down the science fiction movie samples for a more eerie feel, as giant pieces of a techno assembly line piece together a sonic weapon of catastrophic destruction over a dirty and distorted bottom end.
