On Dream, Stone reminisces about a life spent immersed in soul. She reprises Slave’s disco-funk gem “Watching You” for “Dollar Bill,” and samples Bobby Womack’s “That’s the Way I Feel About ‘Cha” for “Think it Over.” On “Forget About Me” she addresses her former lover D’Angelo while piping horns unfold into a slow blues ballad. Still, she’s hardly lost in introspection. Songs like her “Begin Again” duet with Dave Hollister and the sassy R&B tune “Clothes Don’t Make a Man” prove she’s still the vivacious songwriter we know and love.
