Freddie De Tommaso
Il Tenore
Album - Classical, Music, Opera
Following on from Passione, his striking 2021 debut, De Tommaso’s Il Tenore takes us to the heart of the tenor repertoire with four key roles: Don José (Carmen), Pinkerton (Madam Butterfly), Cavaradossi (Tosca), and the only one De Tommaso has not yet performed on stage, Calaf (Turandot). His dark, Italianate sound is ideal, and here he gives us scenes rather than just arias or duets. Joined by Lise Davidsen as Tosca, he’s in glowing form; with the excellent Natalya Romaniw’s Butterfly, he’s ardent and touching. His Don José, to Aigul Akhmetshina’s Carmen, is elegant and stylish, while his “Nessun dorma” whets the appetite for more to come.
