Martin Garrix has been one of dance music’s brightest lights since 2013, when the then-17-year-old mixologist dropped the titanic anthem “Animals.” Since then, the Dutch DJ has kept sharpening EDM’s cutting edge, moving from big-room sounds to deeper strains of future house. Yet it took two years of pandemic downtime for him to finally release his debut album. Sentio continues to push what’s possible on the main stage. The Zedd collaboration “Follow” hints at Radiohead’s moody chords before bursting into rave-ready pyrotechnics; “Limitless” (with Mesto) and “Reboot” (with Vluarr) deliver lean, jacking house grooves while teasing textures that seem to pull apart at the seams. And on “Starlight (Keep Me Afloat),” Garrix’s melodic instincts remain intact: Featuring a soaring vocal from Shaun Farrugia, the DubVision collab is as emotive as an anthem can get.
