For his second EP of 2022, singer, songwriter and actor Tarsem Jassar once again teams up with composer, rapper and producer Wazir Patar. Indeed, rising star Patar gets co-billing on Enigma, where the pair expand their sonic palette far beyond the heavy hip-hop that encompasses Defcon 1. To be sure, the beats are just as forceful—the anthem title track fizzes and gangsta-funk-influenced “Roots” is a muscle-bound stomper—but there’s also a more laidback vibe to proceedings. “Feel” is a dreamy romantic journey in sound and “Why Black !” is a rhythmic crowd-pleaser.
